Explanation of Solution
Obesity refers to excess amount of body fat. Obesity is determined by body mass index. Body mass index (BMI) is an international standard to calculate body mass and is calculated based on individual’s age as well as height and weight. An individual is considered obese if BMI is at 95% or greater for their age. If the BMI ranges from 85% to 94% then the respective individuals are clinically at risk for obesity.
Obesity causes metabolic syndrome and loss in weight is required to reduce the complications. Metabolic syndrome has three risk factors in common such as presence of significant abdominal fat mass, changes in glucose
Increased intake of high fat and high carbohydrate diet, high-sugar containing soft drinks, fast food, decreased physical activity due to more time spent indoors contribute to obesity. Obesity is often marked with type2 diabetes mellitus, elevated blood cholesterol/lipid levels, and increased blood pressure, psychological problems, cardiac problems, strokes, and musculoskeletal problems.
