Biological systems such as the cardiovascular and respiratory system work in conjunction. Respiratory system helps the animals to breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide back into the environment. Cardiovascular system, on the other hand, is responsible for circulating the blood and nutrients in the body.

Explanation of Solution

Respiratory system comprises lungs and aids in providing exchange site for the gases. On the other hand, the cardiovascular system contains heart and blood vessels and it works as a highway that transfers essential nutrients and gases to every part of the body. The body’s cells constantly utilize the oxygen for different metabolic reactions, which produce the energy coming from the nutrient molecules and generate the energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Simultaneously, these biochemical reactions produce carbon dioxide and due to its excessive amount of gas, it releases acidity that can be harmful or toxic to the cells so that extra carbon dioxide needs to be removed rapidly and efficiently. Both the systems, namely, respiratory and cardiovascular systems work in conjunction to provide oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from the system.

The respiratory system supplies for the gas exchange wherein the intake of the oxygen molecules and removal of the carbon dioxide molecules takes place. Whereas, the cardiovascular system carries the blood comprising of the gases present in the lungs and body cells. Any failure of this system may hamper the homeostasis by resulting in the rapid death of cells due to the oxygen starvation and it may accumulate the waste products.

Cellular respiration picks up glucose and fuses it with the oxygen in order to generate energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) this respiration outlines carbon dioxide and water vapor as the products. Hence, the common functionality between the two is that they provide sites for assisting in cellular respiration.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system plays a necessary role in cellular respiration.
