Given Information:
A number line with given coordinates and distance marked on it.
A number line is used to graphically represent numbers along a line. It consists of 0 as the center point. The positive numbers are marked to the right and negative numbers are marked to the left side of the center point. Moving on the left by some units, in the positive part of the line can also be considered to give a negative coordinate.
In the given figure which is redrawn here along with the position in terms of units, it can be seen that,
(1) 8 units are marked from center point to right representing the coordinate as 8.
(2) 5 units are marked from the previous point to left making the final position to be 3.
This implies that adding 8 units marked in right to 5 units marked left yields 3 units on the right side of center point, which can be expressed as,
