To examine: The periodic table to find the common aspect of all the elements in a row.
Introduction: The periodic table of chemical elements shows all the chemical elements listed in a tabular form according to their atomic number, electron distribution, and similar chemical properties.
The horizontal rows in the periodic table are called periods, whereas the vertical columns of the periodic table are called groups. All the elements of a group have the same number of electrons in their outermost atomic orbital. All the elements in a period have the same number of electron shells. From left to right in a period, each element adds one electron and a proton and thus, increases the atomic number.
To examine: The periodic table to find the common aspect in all the elements in a column.

- Look carefully at the two sheets of glucose molecules. Are they identical? Describe any differences that you notice. The first page contains α-glucose molecules. Each glucose represents a monosaccharide. Cut out one glucose monosaccharide and paste it onto your sheet of paper. Label it α-glucose (alpha) and number the carbons (from 1 to 6). Numbering moves clockwise, beginning with the carbon next to the oxygen in the ring. What is the molecular formula for α-glucose? Cut out two more glucose molecules and place them side by side on your table. Use scissors to remove a water molecule from the functional groups on carbon #1 of one glucose and carbon #4 of the other. What is the name of the two functional groups from which the water molecule was removed? What is the name of the biochemical reaction which results in the loss of water from a molecule? What else can this reaction be called? Slide the two glucose molecules together. Where will a new bond be formed?…arrow_forwardI'm confused on how to convert the numbers into a number. - Water is attracted to anything charged (ionized) or polar (slightly charged) Recall that opposite charges attract. Because of its partial positive and negative charges, water is attracted to molecules that are charged or polar, including other water molecules. The attraction between water molecules is a weak bond called a hydrogen bond. These bonds are not just between water molecules though. These bonds can be between other kinds of molecules too. For example, they hold two strands of DNA together! Draw several water molecules aligned with one another according to their charges and show little dotted lines to indicate the weak fleeting H-bonds between the molecules: The polarity of water allows it to dissolve (pull apart) ions such as salts. Draw a Na+ ion being dissolved (surrounded) by some water molecules (aligning the water molecules properly): Any type of ion or polar molecule that water is attracted to is described as HYDROPHILIC.arrow_forwardGenAlex Medical, a little-known division of a major Swiss pharmaceutical firm, recently developed a new synthetic steroid S.
