Concept explainers
The rabbits rest. Suppose we have a pair of baby rabbits-one male and one female. As before, the rabbits cannot reproduce until they are one month old. Once they start reproducing, they produce a pair of bunnies (one of each sex) each month. Now, however, let us assume that each pair dies after three months, immediately after giving birth. Create a chart showing how many pairs we have after each month from the start through month nine.

- In Example 5, after how many days are 250 students infected?arrow_forwardYou randomly recruit 23 students and tell each of them to come to the lab in two different mornings: each morning they will be offered some breakfast and will take a test. Each student will receive the light breakfast one time and the nutritious breakfast the other time (some will receive the light breakfast first, the others will receive the nutritious breakfast first, and the second time they switch). The average difference in a student’s score after eating the nutritious breakfast and their score after eating a light breakfast is 4.5, and the standard deviation of this difference is 3.6. (a) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the difference in the average score of students after having a nutritious breakfast and the average score of students after having a light breakfast.arrow_forwardWhich of the following represents the players who can play both cricket and hockey?arrow_forward
- Shown are the ages of the presidents at the times of their deaths. my questions are A-Earrow_forwardRead the information below carefully. Then answer the questions that follow by typing in the letter of the correct response. Nicole is interested in horses, and she reads some interesting tidbits of information about them. For example, did you know that the most common color of a horse is “bay.” This means they have brown bodies with a black mane, tail, and lower legs, like the horse pictured to the right. Nicole also reads that the length of horse pregnancies from conception to birth have an average (mean) of about 340 days with a standard deviation of 12.2 days. One study on a sample of 45 horses found that they had a mean of 15 foals (babies) during their lifetime, with a standard deviation of 5 foals. i. Which of the following statements is a parameter? A. the most common color of a horse is “bay.” B. the length of horse pregnancies from conception to birth have an average of about 340 days C. - Answer question 3. stepwise.arrow_forwardWalter is a sales manager for a chain of car dealerships. He encourages the managers at each store to spend as much time on the sales floor as they can. He is curious if this has any effect on the number of cars sold. Each manager reports the number of hours per day he or she spends on the sales floor. From this, Walter creates the scatterplot below showing sales and time on the floor. What information can Walter infer from the scatterplot? Select all that apply. 10 9 8 1 1 3 4 7 Average Hours on Sales Floor O There is a positive correlation between hours on the sales floor and sales. O There is no correlation between hours on the sales floor and sales. O There is a negative correlation between hours on the sales floor and sales. O Walter should require all managers to spend more hours on the sales floor. O Walter should make no changes to policies regarding hours on the sales floor for managers. O Walter should help managers who spend little time on the sales floor find ways to spend…arrow_forwardAfter graduation, you take a job with Specialty Toys, Inc, a company that sells a variety of innovative children’s toys. Management has learned the best time to introduce a new toy for the holiday season is in October when many families begin looking for holiday gifts. Specialty plans to introduce a new product called "Weather Teddy," a talking teddy bear with a built in barometer that predicts weather conditions. When a child presses the bear’s hand, it will respond with one of five possible weather predictions, ranging from "It looks to be a very nice day! Have Fun!" to "I think it may rain today. Don’t forget your umbrella." Product tests show its predictions are about as good as those of many local weather forecasters. Since you understand statistics, your boss comes to you for help in deciding how many Weather Teddy units to order for the holiday season. She tells you the following facts: Members of the management team suggest ordering quantities of 15,000, 18,000, or 24,000…arrow_forward
- Answer question 1. Stepwise for understanding.arrow_forwardCooling down with a cold drink before exercise in the heat is believed to help an athlete perform. Researcher J. Dugas explored the difference between cooling down with an ice slurry (slushy) and with cold water. Ten male participants drank a flavored ice slurry and ran a treadmill in a controlled hot and humid environment. Days later, the same participants drank cold water and ran on a treadmill in the same hot and humid environment. The following table shows the times, in minutes, it took to fatigue on the treadmill for both the ice slurry and the cold water.
