Cyanobacteria are Gram-positive in nature and they are the only prokaryotes able to produce oxygen. These bacteria derive energy from the photosynthesis process. These members are also termed as blue, green algae. Some of the Cyanobacteria are able to fix nitrogen under anaerobic condition with the help of structure termed as heterocysts.
