Program Plan Intro

String library:

“String” is a predefined data type in a programing language.

• Strings are objects which are used to represent the sequence of characters.
• “String” is a single dimensional array and it is terminated using null character.

String operations:

The various string operation in the programming languages are,

• strcpy(x, y);
  • Copy the string “y” to “x”.
• strcat(x, y);
  • Concatenate “y” at the end of “x”.
• strlen(x);
  • Returns the length of “x”.
• strcmp(x, y);
  • Returns 0 when “x” and “y” are same, returns less than 0 when “x<y”, returns greater than 0 when “x>y”.
• strchr(x, ch);
  • Returns pointer to first event of character “ch” in string “x”.
• strstr(x, y);
  • Returns pointer to first event of string “y” in string “x”.
