Question
Chapter 21, Problem 3AQ
Summary Introduction
To explain:
The microbial ecology which contributes to the crown corrosion of concrete sewer lines. Also, explain intervention strategies which would prove useful in the reduction of corrosion.
Concept introduction:
Crown corrosion is a form of microbial biodegradation which is observed in sewer concrete tiles and leads to the destruction of pipes. This crown corrosion results from the interaction between sulfate-reducing bacteria and chemolithotrophic sulfur oxidizing bacteria.
