Mycoplasmas are widespread microorganisms. They can be isolated from various plants, animals, and soil as well as compost piles. In animals, the Mycoplasmas colonize the mucous membrane as well as the joints. Mycoplasmas lack a cell wall that surrounds the cell membrane of all the other bacteria. Therefore, they are resistant to most of the antibiotics.
