The definition of plasmids is to be stated and the way by which they are used to get bacteria to synthesize a new protein that they normally do not synthesize is to be stated.

Concept introduction:

DNA is a type of nucleic acid and stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is found primarily in nuclei of the cells and is present in the form of long chain polymers. It has a double helix structure in which the nucleotides are joined together by phosphate groups that join the $5\text{'}$ carbon of one nucleotide to the $3\text{'}$ carbon of the other nucleotide. When segments of DNA from one organism are introduced into the DNA of another organism, the resulting DNA is termed as recombinant DNA.
