Introduction:

The thorax is supplied by several arteries originating directly from the aorta and from the subclavian and axillary arteries. The aorta begins distal to the aortic arch and ends at the aortic hiatus, a passage through the diaphragm. Along the way, it sends off numerous small branches to the thoracic viscera and the body wall.
