A thermostat is referred as a temperature-controlled valve located at the engine coolant exit on most engines to control the minimum normal operating temperature. It is used to control the normal operating coolant temperature between high-temperature and low-temperature extremes.

The coolant temperature usually depends on the thermostat rating. The engines equipped with a 195°F thermostat have the normal operating coolant temperature between 195°F and 215°F.
