The primary function of the lymphatic system is to fight infection in various parts of the body. Lymph nodes are present throughout the body. They are the sites of actively clearing infectious organisms from the lymph with the help of immunity cells. Large numbers of infiltrating microorganisms can cause enlargement of several components of the lymphatic system.
