Explanation Renin–angiotensin–aldosterone (RAA) system: When the flow of the blood to the kidneys lowers, an enzyme called renin is secreted in the bloodstream by the kidney's juxtaglomerular cells. Renin as well as angiotensin-converting enzyme produces the active hormone known as angiotensin II that is also referred as a vasoconstrictor and it increases the BP further by increasing the systemic vascular resistance. Another way, by which the BP is raised is by stimulating the aldosterone secretion that further increases the Na + (sodium ions) reabsorption by the kidneys. The reabsorption of water also increases. In sequence, the total blood volume increases and thus, there is an increase in the blood pressure.
