Introduction:

Diabetes mellitus is a condition with a disruption in the metabolic processes wherein there is an excess of glucose in the blood. Diabetes is caused by the non-secretion of insulin by the pancreas. In other words, it prevents the body from using the energy from the food properly. Hence, diabetes is said to occur when

- The pancreas produces too little or no insulin at all. Insulin is produced by the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans that convert the glucose to energy in the cells.

- Insulin produced by the pancreas does not work as it is required indicating the resistance to insulin.
