To analyze:
The different hormones produced by the adrenal medulla and adrenal cortex and their functions.
Introduction:
The adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla form the two different layers of the adrenal gland. These two organs surround each other, with adrenal medulla assuming the interior and adrenal cortex assuming the exterior position. The two regions are encapsulated by a connective tissue layer, termed as the capsule. The adrenal medulla is a sympathetic ganglion and comprises of chromaffin cells.
The adrenal cortex is composed of cortical cells which synthesize and secrete a variety of corticosteroids. It is further divisible into three layers, namely, Zona fasciculate, Zona glomerulosa, and Zona reticularis. The two endocrine glands secrete a variety of hormones, with different physiologic functions.
