The Phylum Zygomycota contains the very tiny group of fungi known as the zygomycetes. One of these is the well-known Rhizopus stolonifer bread mold, which spreads quickly on the surfaces of bread, fruits, and vegetables. A few species, mostly parasites of insects, live off the decomposition of organic matter and are saprobes, like the majority of species.
