Summary Introduction

To describe: The term “species” according to the biological species concept.

Introduction: The word “species” is derived from Latin, which means kind. The efforts to classify on different bases started from very ancient time. However, it was Linnaeus, the founder of “modern taxonomy”, who gave the meaning to the word species. In the starting, various plants and animals were defined by their external features like morphology and structure. Although it is inadequate to represent the species only through morphology and structure, it continues to be used in identification and characterization of plants.
