The meaning of trachoma means roughness, which is the disease caused by the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis. It infects the conjunctiva and cornea are scarred by bacterial infection, leading to blindness. Trachoma is a disease of children who have been infected during birth. Some strains of C. trachomatis produce blindness. When the microbe from the genitalia is introduced into the eyes via fomites, fingers, or flies.
