Meningitis is an infectious disease characterized by inflammation of the meninges layer (the tissue that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). 90% of bacterial meningitis is caused by the following five bacteria - Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus agalactiae.
