Concept introduction:

Reduced glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide with a sulfhydryl group. GSH reduces reactive oxygen species to harmless forms, thereby reducing the oxidative stress in the cell. This prevents the cell from various damages and cell death. When ROS are reduced, GSH is oxidized GSSG. In order to continue this ROS removal process GSH should be regenerated. So, GSSG is again reduced into GSH by NADPH.
