Chapter 20, Problem 28P

(a)

Summary Introduction

To determine:

The location of PEP carboxylase in plant is to be determined.

Introduction:

The C4 photosynthesis is also called as a Hatch Slack pathway. The plant that uses C4 photosynthesis is corn, dry grasses, shrubs and so on. Voznesenskya and colleagues worked in Bienertia cycloptera plant whose biochemical properties are similar to C4 plant. But they perform carbon dioxide fixation reaction in same organelles. PEP carboxylase and RuBisCO enzyme are present in same cell. This plant contains two different types of chloroplast. One chloroplast has poor granal thylakoid and is present in periphery region of cell, while other chloroplast present in center of cell.
