Chapter 20, Problem 1RQ
List the three major categories of photodetectors.
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
The three major categories of photodetectors.
Explanation of Solution
Photodetectors:
Photodetectors are sensors widely used in today’s industries to sense the presence of objects without having the need to make physical contact with the object being sensed. The photodetectors operate at speeds that are much higher and cannot be tolerated by the mechanical contact switches.
Photodetectors can be categorized into three major types as follows:
- Photovoltaic.
- Photoemissive.
- Photoconductive.
