Expert Solution & Answer
Chapter 20, Problem 1RE
Explanation of Solution
Layout Manager:
- A user interface is build in java by adding the components into the containers called as panels.
- Each container will have their own layout managers which will direct the arrangement of its components.
- There are three types of layout managers and they are:
- Border layout
- Flow layout
- Grid layout
Flow panel:
- The default panel that “JPanel” uses is a flow layout.
- A flow layout is capable of placing as many components as possible in the row format that is from left to right without changing the size and will start adding the new row as required.
- The content pane of a frame is considered to have a border layout by default whereas the panel is considered to have a flow layout by default.
Justification:
Yes, flow layout can be used for the components in the frame. It is recommended to set the frame ‘s layout to flow layout as shown below:
frame.setLayout(new FlowLayout());
Reason:
- By default the components Orientation is left to right, which means the components would be added in the frame from left to right.
- If the frame is size is not enough then the new rows are inserted based on the requirement.
- Example:adding the user interface components just one by one as shown below:
frame.add(new JButton("A"));
frame.add(new JButton("B"));
