Explanation of Solution

Given information:

Identify several dark nebulae in photographs in this chapter. Give the figure numbers of the photographs, and specify where the dark nebulae are to be found on them.

Introduction:

Dark nebula is a mean of interstellar cloud which block the light comes from the objects that lie back to it, such as reflection or emission nebula. The light is mainly block due to the dust grains which are located in the interstellar clouds.

Figure 20.2 The various types of the interstellar matter which shows the dark nebula to the left and right of the bright central star. Figure 20.3 Orion nebula shows the dark nebula in the top left of the image. Figure 20.9 Barnard 68 which shows the dark nebula in the Centre of the image. Figure 20.11 Horse-head nebula in Orion has a dark nebula in the top image that fills most of the frame including the horse-head shape. Figure 20.12 shows the dark nebula right in the Centre of the frame and various smaller ones scattered throughout. Figure 20.13 Pleiades star cluster which shows the dark reflection nebula in the lower right of the frame. Figure 20.14 Barnard 68 shows a dark nebula in the center of the frame.
