The correlation method helps in determining the existence of a relationship between two variables. The method aims to study the degree to which the increase or decrease in one characteristic or event is associated with the increase or decrease in another characteristic or event. However, at times the correlation between two variables can be misinterpreted as a cause-effect relationship between two variables.
