An ionic bond is defined as the transfer of one or more electrons between the metal and non-metal ions. The electrons should be oppositely charged. It is also called as electrostatic bond. It is weak compared to covalent bond, so that it will break down by hydration. It has high melting and boiling points. It does not have a definite shape. It is also called an electrostatic bond because there is bonding between cation and anion. It has higher difference in electronegativity.
