The elements that are required in a much larger quantity are called macroelements.

Iodine and iron are the important elements required by the body in trace amounts. Iodine is an essential ingredient of the thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It is required by vertebrates. Iron is required by all forms of life. It is an important component of hemoglobin.
