ribosomes.....................
To review:
Match the term ribosomes with the most closely related descriptions given below:
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) replication.
Flattened membrane discs, packaging.
Adjacent plasma membranes bound by bands of interlocking proteins.
Packaging of materials for import into cell.
RNA (ribonucleic acid) and protein; protein synthesis.
Control center; stores genetic information.
Cell vesicles with digestive enzymes.
Embedded in the plasma membrane.
Internal protein framework in the cytoplasm.
Introduction:
Organelles are structures that perform several functions in the cell. They are important for several cellular functions. Cells may differ in the organelle composition. Organelles are classified into membranous and non-membranous organelles.
Explanation of Solution
The ribosomes are considered as intracellular factories, which consist of large and small ribosomal subunits. These subunits together are involved in the manufacture of proteins. The ribosomes are of two types namely free and fixed.
Free ribosomes are found in the cytosol, whereas, the fixed ribosomes are found attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. They synthesize proteins and are composed of proteins and RNA. The transfer RNA carry amino acids to the ribosomes for protein synthesis.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the ribosomes can be correctly matched with option (e) RNA and protein; protein synthesis.
