On a particularly busy workday, I might need to drive back and forth between ASUN’s Newport and Jonesboro campuses, which are 38 miles apart. It takes me 48 min to make the drive from the Newport campus to the Jonesboro campus. On the return trip from Jonesboro to Newport, I decide to speed by maintaining an average speed that is 10 mi/hr faster than my average speed going from Newport to Jonesboro.
You are driving your car downtown from the beach, but you realize that you need to stop for food. You'd like to stop at the in and out on Jefferson Dr because you think they make the best hoagies in town. You start by driving west on Jefferson Dr at a speed of 18.0 m/s. After 6 minutes, you turn left on Washington st. You get stuck behind someone who isn't in as much of a hurry as you are, and so you slow your speed to 14.3 m/s and continue driving to the south on Washington for another 11 minutes. When you get to Jefferson, you are glad to be away from that slowpoke. You turn right and speed up to a speed of 26 m/s for 13 minutes on your way to the In & Out. At this point, how far (in meters) are you from your starting point at the beach?
Note: 1 mph = 0.45 m/s

How long (in hours) will it be before Amanda catches up to Ben?arrow_forwardYou and your family are going on a road trip to visit your recently married cousin in B.C. The total round trip distance is 2100 km. On the way to B.C., you encounter no setbacks and you are able to drive on average at a constant speed. On the way home from B.C., you encounter a snowstorm and your mom has to slow down to avoid getting into an accident. Thus, your average speed decreases by 10 km/h. If the total driving time was 42 hours, what was your average speed on the way to B.C.? Recall distance = speed x time.arrow_forwardMs. Gordon drives to the store to get some milk. She travels at a constant speed of 30.0 mph on her way to the store. While at the store it starts snowing and the roads become treacherous. On the way back she travels at a constant speed of 20.0 mph. She takes the same exact route in each direction. What is her average speed for the entire trip? Don’t count the time that she was in the store. (Hint: the answer is NOT 25.0 mph)arrow_forward
