The antigens are the foreign substances, which trigger the immune response inside the cell. The plasma membrane of red blood cells contains the surface antigens. They are the membrane glycoproteins present on the surface. The types of the surface antigens include A, B and D (Rhesus antigen). The antigens recognize the foreign particles entering the cell like bacteria or virus.
