Chapter 19, Problem 6CP
Summary Introduction
To analyze:
The change in the person’s hematocrit value after a significant blood loss.
Introduction:
The hematocrit value is the volume of the formed elements (blood cells) in the blood. It is calculated by the centrifugation of blood samples. This causes the separation of the blood cells into different zones and fractions containing red blood cells and white blood cells. The decrease in hematocrit volume is caused by the loss of blood, due to an internal bleeding or an accident. This causes a decrease in the volume of the blood cells and platelets thus reducing the hematocrit value.
