To analyze:
The edema in terms of either increase or a decrease in one of the four pressures that causes bulk flow with respect to four patients suffering from edema.
(1) A patient named Mrs. Taylor is awaiting for liver transplant. The reason for the connection between liver failure and her edema.
(2) The bulk flow pressures experienced by Mrs. So during premature labor shows edema in her legs.
(3) A patient named Mr. Herrera is in anaphylactic shock with leaky capillaries, allowing plasma proteins that are normally kept inside the blood vessels to escape into the interstitial fluid. Determine the bulk flow pressures altered in this case and direction it the changes.
4) A patient named Mrs. O’Leary is recovering from breast cancer surgery and her right arm breast and all of her axillary lymph nodes were removed. Her right arm is quite edematous, Mrs. O’Leary is given a compression sleeve to wear on this arm to help relieve the edema. Determine the bulk flow pressure will be altered by the compression sleeve.
