Concept introduction: The most familiar instrument to measure radioactivity level is Geiger Muller counter. High energy particles from radioactive decay process produce ions when they travel through the matter. Its probe is filled with argon gas which is ionized by rapidly moving particle. There is flow of current due to formation of ions and electrons by the passage of high energy particle. Thus the decay rate of radioactive sample is determined by detecting the current flow.
