Concept explainers
To determine: The effects of increased atmospheric [CO2] on photosynthesis.
Concept introduction:
Botanists use C3, C4, and CAM as a method to classify earth’s plants into categories, which refers to the number of first carbon compound to which the CO2 is fixed to. The majority of land plants uses C3 pathway. In higher plants, certain respiratory processes take place where the plants uptake oxygen in the presence of sunlight and release the CO2 into atmosphere. This process is entirely different from the photosynthesis process.
To determine: Whether the effects of increased atmospheric [CO2] will be the same for both C3 and C4 plants.
