Chapter 19, Problem 2R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The causes of hemagglutination in blood typing.
Introduction:
The ABO blood group system is classified by Karl Landsteiner in 1901. The most known blood grouping is ABO and Rh system. Blood group A indicates that the person has the A antigen and B antibody. If someone mistakenly transfuse B Blood group to A blood group person, the blood will get agglutinated immediately and cause severe symptoms.

In terms of antigens and antibodies, explain why O- is considered a universal donor and why AB+ is considered a universal recipient. Even so, why can’t whole blood O- be donated to a person of type AB+ blood?
If you are transfusing blood to a hypothetical patient, is it more important that the transfused blood have antigens that will not react with the recipient’s antibodies or antibodies that will not react with the recipient’s antigens? Pick one and briefly explain why.
If antibody RH is given to a person with a B+ blood type what would happen?
If antibody RH is given to a person with a A- blood type what would happen?
