The second step that involves the transformation enzyme-substrate complex to the give back the enzyme and the product is the slow step as the amount of enzyme present at this stage governs how readily the substrate present at the active site can transform into the form products. Such a slow step is termed as the rate-limiting step.
The rate constant value of the rate-limiting step determines how fast or slow the overall rate of the enzyme-catalyzed reaction will be. Greater is the magnitude of the rate constant of this rate-limiting step faster will be the enzyme-catalyzed reaction.
