An explanation corresponding to the given statement that if an individual is an energy policy analyst, then how would he compare different problems as the risk of a nuclear accident versus air pollution effects from burning coal.

Answer to Problem 19.1CTDQ
There are different energy sources and energy technologies and each has advantages and disadvantages. The risk of a nuclear accident versus air pollution effects from burning coal, both has great impact on human as well as environment.
Explanation of Solution
Nuclear fission is the procedure that is utilized as a part of nuclear reactors to deliver high amount of energyusing the element uranium. Basically, it is the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
Nuclear energy is considered as one of the most environment friendly source of energy as it produces less greenhouse gases during the production of power when contrasted with traditional sources like coal power plants. But the sources of nuclear energy are very dangerous because they emit radiations. The mining and refining of uranium is not a clean process. And these radiations can cause damage to human body. It can also lead to cancer or genetic mutations to the next generation. These are the risks of nuclear accidents.
Burning of coal can cause various damages to the environment. Burning of coal releases various gases such as, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and also heavy metals. This leads to climatic changes and has an impact on global warming. It could also cause damage to humans as they could have problems in breathing or asthma. It also leads to some other diseases like neurological disorders or premature death.
