The coenzyme thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) is used to catalyze the conversion of pyruvate to carbon dioxide and acetyl Co-A in the presence of enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase.

TPP is derived from vitamin B1 (Thiamine).

Thiamine pyrophosphate consists of a pyrimidine ring and thiazole ring. Both are connected to each other. The thiazole ring is further connected to the pyrophosphate group.
