How the distribution of stereocilia along the spiral organ allows the brain to perceive different pitches?
Introduction:
The stereocilia are the hair-like projections present in the ear, which is used for the detection of the sound and are responsible for balancing. High-pitched sounds are detected by cells with shorter hair bundles, located closest to where sound enters the ear. The lower-pitched sounds are detected by cells with taller hair bundles located further in.
