Question
Chapter 18, Problem 31Q
Summary Introduction
To explain: The differences in the mechanism by which cell proliferation is induced in the liver of patients with chronic alcoholism and patients with liver cancer.
Concept introduction: Cell proliferation is generally induced in the cells when nutrition levels are sufficient for normal working of the cell. When the nutrients are sufficient enough, the growth factors or trophic factors are produced. These trophic factors will induce cell proliferation. Chronic alcoholism and hepatocellular carcinoma are where the trophic factors are induced not because of the availability of nutrients but due to other reasons.
