Introduction:

The restriction enzyme term was originated from the phage λ studies. It is a virus which infects the bacteria. It is involved in the host-controlled restriction and modification phenomenon of such bacteriophages. More than about 3,000 restriction enzymes have been known in detail. These enzymes are consistently used for the DNA modification. They act as an important tool in laboratories for the molecular cloning.
