Concept introduction:
The parathyroid hormone or parathormone (PTH) is a hormone that is secreted by the parathyroid glands. It is secreted in response to low blood calcium levels and functions to regulate the blood calcium levels by affecting various organs such as kidneys, bone and intestine.
The increased production of parathyroid hormones can lead to hypercalcaemia and decreased production can lead to hypocalcaemia.
