Concept explainers
Whether the given statement is true or not.

Answer to Problem 18A
True
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The scaling is study of how size affects the relationship between the weight, strength and surface area. In scaling surface area and volume are important.
As the linear size of the object increases, both volume and surface area increase. But volume grows larger than the area. Volume grows as the cube of enlargement and area grows as the square of enlargement. Therefore, the ratio of surface area to volume decreases since denominator is increased more than the numerator.
Conclusion:
Thus, the given statement is true.
