Chapter 18, Problem 18.109GP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Solubility property in water should be explained when Peptide containing alanine and leucine or a peptide containing lysine and aspartic acid.

Concept introduction:

  • Many amino acids are linked together through amide bonds to form a biologically large molecule known to be proteins.
  • Amino functional group is (NH2) and carboxyl functional group is (COOH) and a R (alkyl) group is considered as side chain, when all these are bonded to same carbon atom.
  • In protein the amide bond can link together with two amino acids to form a peptide bond (O=CNH).
  • Dipeptide results from the linkage of two amino acids through one peptide bond.
  • Tertiary structure of protein is the noncovalent interaction that holds the single protein in a three dimensional shape takes place primarily between amino acid side chain or side chain thiol groups.
  • Hydrocarbon side chain are attracted to each other by dispersion forces caused as a result of uneven distribution of electrons give rise to hydrophobic interaction.
  • Hydrogen bonding is the electrostatic force of attraction between hydrogen and the electronegative atom.

Biochemistry What is the process of "transamination" in either the muscles or the liver, that involves keto acid or glutamic acid? Please explain how the steps work. Thank you!
Biochemistry Please help. Thank you What is the importance of glutamic acid in the metabolism of nitrogen from amino acids? (we know therole; it’s used to remove the nitrogen from amino acids so that the remaining carbon skeleton can bebroken down by the “usual” pathways, but what is the important, unique role that only glutamicacid/glutamate can do?)
