Explanation In the Borda count voting method, each voter ranks the entire list of candidates in order of preference from the first to last. If there are n candidates, then n points assigned to the first choice, n-1 points for the second choice and so on. That is, in Borda count method the lowest ranking candidate is given 1 point, the second lowest is given 2 points, and so on, the top candidate receiving points equal to the number of candidates. The points for each candidate are added, and the candidate who has maximum points is declared as the winner. Example: My sport teacher wants to decide a captain for our team and there are three candidates (David, John and Robert) who are eligible for the position, so my teacher takes an election to decide the captain. The teacher gives us a sheet where we had to give our preference for the captain. Our sport team has 15 members. The outcomes for the voting among three candidates is as below. (D: David, J: John, R: Robert). Voter Ranking 1 DJR 2 DRJ 3 JDR 4 DJR 5 JRD 6 RJD 7 DRJ 8 DJR 9 JRD 10 RDJ 11 DJR 12 JDR 13 RDJ 14 JRD 15 DRJ The teacher wants to select the captain using Borda count method, so I award 3 point for each first place ranking, 2 point for each second place ranking and 1 point for each last place ranking
