The bite of a black widow spider introduces a powerful enzyme known as Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor enzyme (AchE). The injection of the poison may cause muscle cramps, secretion of saliva, increased heart rate, and high blood pressure.

Widow spiders belong to the genus Latrodectus. The widow spiders are represented in the United States by the black widows. There are five species of spiders. Among them, the Black widow spiders are only species of spiders which has the ability to cause a poisonous bite to humans. The venom of a black widow spider acts on nerves causing the enormous release of the neurotransmitter chemicals namely acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and GABA. The massive release of these neurotransmitters causes salivation, muscle cramps, fast heart rate, and increased blood pressure.
