There are two methods of gene transfer: horizontal gene transfer and vertical gene transfer. In vertical gene transfer the genes are transferred from parent to progeny and no new genes are introduced by this process. In horizontal gene transfer the gene such as antibiotic genes are transferred to the nearby cells
