A high pressure gas cylinder contains 45.5 L of toxic gas at a pressure of 1.2X10^7 N/m^2 and a temperature of 29° C. Its valve leaks after the cylinder is dropped. The cylinder is cooled to dry ice temperature of -78.5°C to reduce the leak rate and pressure so that it can be safely repaired. a) what is the final pressure in the tank, assuming a negligible amount of gas leaks while being cooled and that there is no phase change? P2: Pa
b) what is the final pressure of one-tenth of the gas escapes? P2: Pa
c) to what temperature must the tank be cooled to reduce the pressure to 1.00 atm (assuming the gas does not change phase and that there is no leakage during cooling?)
T2: K
d) does cooling the tank appear to be a practical solution to bring the pressure down and reduce the leak? Assume N1≈N2. Take into account the values calculatesd in parts (a) and (c). Yes or no?
You are using a thin layer of epoxy to bond a Silicon chip to a pure aluminum plate that acts as a heat sink (epoxy layer 0.0200mm). The Silicon chip (k = 149.0 W/(m-K) is 0.200 mm thick, and has dimensions of 25.0mm by 25.0mm. The pure aluminum plate is 0.850cm thick, and has the same dimensions as the Silicon chip. The hot side of the silicon chip is measured to be 62.0°C; the cold side of the pure aluminum plate is measured to be 31.0°C. Assuming steady-state conduction (with the thin layer of epoxy acting as contact resistance, see Table 3.2.) determine the heat transfer rate through the chip. Do not add in an addition resistance due to the thickness of the epoxy layer, this has been incorporated into the contact resistance.

To condition the air in an office building in the winter, 1000 cubic meter of moist air per hour at 101 kPa and 22 Celsius with a dew point of 11 Celsius enter the system. The air leaves the system at 98 kPa with a dew point of 58°C. How many kilograms water vapor are added to each kilogram of wet air entering the process?
