Chapter 17, Problem 1RQ

Why should brake fluid not be filled above the full or MAX level as indicated on the master cylinder reservoir?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

Explain the reason why brake fluid should not be filled above the MAX level as displayed on the master cylinder reservoir.

Explanation of Solution

Brake fluid is generally used to transfer the foot force of a driver to the brake pedal. The brake pedal is stated as service brake in accordance with each individual wheel brake. The brake fluid should not be allowed to fill above the maximum limit as displayed on the master cylinder reservoir for the specified conditions.

The overfilling of the brake fluid should be avoided as the brake fluid becomes hotter when the brakes are applied. It is suggested to have a space in the master cylinder reservoir for the brake fluid to enlarge. Thus, the brake fluid should be filled up to the stated level with respect to the specified conditions.
